DAEMON Tools Lite is a Windows-exclusive virtual DVD-ROM emulator powered by a SCSI Miniport architecture on Windows. This utility tool can emulate up to 4 DVD-ROM drives and work with CD/DVD images made via other burning programs. Transform your collection of physical CD/DVD and DVD/Blu-ray discs into "virtual discs," also known as "disc images," and run them directly from your hard drive.
The disc images are great for playing media from physical discs on notebooks not equipped with a physical optical drive (the lion's share of new notebooks) or to speed up CD/DVD access and save battery power.
To create a virtual disc with DAEMON Tools Lite you need to pick the image file to be used as a source and the software will do the rest. But there is more of a good thing. With DAEMON Tools Lite, you can create MDS/MDF, ISO, and MDX virtual discs or burn a disc image to a physical CD, DVD or Blu-ray disc. You can also use the program to compress disc images, protect them with a password, and manage your growing disc image catalog.
DAEMON Tools Lite is also capable of splitting CD, DVD, and Blu-ray image discs and customizing virtual drives, such as editing a drive letter. There is a command line interface, for the tech geeks out there.
Important note: a big hard drive is essential because disc images require a lot of space.
